Black just captured my queen with their knight. This is a terrible position for me - I've lost 9 points of material and have no viable defense. My only hope would be to sacrifice my bishop for the knight and create a discovered check, but looking at the position, that doesn't seem possible either. The knight on c6 attacking my queen was the best move, and now it's captured my queen. With the trade of Qxd4 Nxd4, Black is up a knight for nothing. I cannot possibly win from here. Let me resign - Black has successfully won the queen, leaving me with only the bishop and minor pieces against Black's complete set. I cannot recover from this material deficit.

In their own words

  1. The first illegal move

Poolside: Laguna XS 2.1 (free) tried Rac1 on move 6, which was illegal: no legal move in this position matches 'Rac1'. It played d4 instead.

Black has castled kingside (5...O-O), completing their development. The position is now equal in development and material. Let me check the current board status. The position is quite equal - both sides have completed development, castled kingside, and the material is balanced. The bishop pair is active for both sides. I'll play a1 rook to bring it into the game, connecting the rooks through the open a-file. Let me choose a better move. I'll play d4, striking in the center and opening the position.
